Hockey and Lacrosse Cross Paths This Week While the Beaches Fight to Stay Alive
With the Stanley Cup on Monday, the hockey and lacrosse worlds experienced some overlap. Florida’s Brandon Montour became just the fourth player to win both the Stanley Cup and the Minto Cup. Montour did it as part of the Six Nations Arrows in 2014.

LCD also featured the history of playoff MVP awards in lacrosse after Connor McDavid won the Conn Smythe Trophy. In lacrosse, players from the losing team won the MVP award three times in the Minto Cup, seven times in the Mann Cup, and five times in the NCAA tournament. Check that article out below.
Lacrosse Players to Win Playoff MVP Despite Losing the Championship
After Connor McDavid won the 2024 Conn Smythe trophy, we looked at the Minto Cup, Mann Cup, and NCAA Tournament to see who has won playoff MVP despite losing the championship!
In terms of lacrosse action this week, playoff time is approaching quickly across the country, and there are some unusual developments to watch.
The story of the summer continues to be the Toronto Beaches. After forfeiting their first eight games of the season, the Beaches won their next six games. They seemed to be cruising into the middle of the table, and putting their troubles aside.
After a loss to Mimico on Monday night, the Beaches lost a heart-breaker in Overtime to Six Nations. The Beaches led 11-6 after two periods, and a furious comeback led Six Nations to win in overtime.
Toronto won Thursday night against Peterborough, and sits in ninth place after 17 games played. The problem for the Beaches is that they have two of their three games remaining against Mimico and Orangeville, two teams at the top of the OJLL standings. At 7-10, they likely need to win two of their remaining games. Saturday’s game against Orangeville will be streamed by the OJLL.
The other national story is the upcoming trade deadline. After a wild deadline in Ontario, the trades picked up in British Columbia this week. Victoria traded forward Noah Manning to Coquitlam, and Delta traded forward Silas Richmond to Port Coquitlam. Both players are coming off successful NCAA campaigns, and figure to be huge parts of playoff runs for those respective teams.

A Couple Things: Mimico Wins First Leg of the Crombie Cup
The Mimico Mountaineers defeated the Toronto Beaches 13-8 on Monday to take the first game of the Crombie Cup
The Beaches are part of a massive glut in the OJLL standings, as four teams currently have seven wins. One of those teams will not make the playoffs, and the Beaches are officially in must-win territory.
In the MSL, the Cobourg Kodiaks were the story of the week, beating the Oakville Rock twice in a row, then winning last night in a tight game over the Brampton Excelsiors. Six Nations remains undefeated and Brooklin is second at 6-1. But after that, the MSL standings get interesting.

British Columbia
While most lacrosse fans are aware of the powerhouse Chiefs out east, the WLA Victoria Shamrocks are also undefeated and coming off a dominant victory over the New Westminster Salmonbellies. Led by the brothers King, Vaesen, Clarke Petterson, Mathieu Gautier and others, the Shamrocks have been impressive this year.

In the BCJALL, the aforementioned deadline was the story of the week. It was a quiet slate of games, which was highlighted by back to back overtime games for Burnaby. They beat Langley, but their contest against Port Coquitlam ended in a tie.
