It’s trade season in Jr. A lacrosse around Canada, as teams decided whether they are buyers or sellers and prepare for deep playoff runs. While the action can be hard to follow all around the country, we created this tracker to keep track of all the movement.
The OJLL trade deadline was June 22. Scroll down to see the full OJLL recaps.
But the BCJALL deadline is heating up. Let’s get into the biggest moves.
BCJALL
July 1
The Langley Thunder trade Cody Malawsky to the Coquitlam Adanacs (with Malawsky to return to Langley in 2025) in return for three first round picks, one second round pick, and cash considerations
This is another massive deal as Malawsky is one of the best players in BC. He will now re-unite with Denver Pioneer teammate Noah Manning, who was also recently traded to the Adanacs.
Malawsky played in the Minto Cup last year for the Adanacs, scoring 28 points in just six games. In his first game with Coquitlam this year, Malawsky had a goal and 4 assists.
He can also do things like this.
June 28
The Burnaby Lakers received the Junior A playing rights to Sean Clark from the Victoria Shamrocks in exchange for Burnaby’s second-round selections in the 2025 and 2027 BCJALL Entry Drafts.
Clark has been effective this year for the Shamrocks, scoring 9 goals and 26 assists for the Shamrocks. Burnaby has been active at the deadline, and is clearly trying to stay competitive in a suddenly loaded BCJALL.
June 26
The Victoria Shamrocks trade Noah Manning to Coquitlam for future considerations
This is a big one for Coquitlam who likely has the best defence and goaltender in Canada, but could use help out front. Manning has Minto Cup experience, playing with the Shamrocks in 2022. He scored 11 points in four games so far this year for Victoria and has already began his career with the Adanacs, scoring 3 goals and 4 assists through two games.
In 43 career games played at Denver, he has scored 52 goals and 27 assists, and he was a part of the Pioneers run to the final four in 2024.
The Delta Islanders trade the playing rights for Silas Richmond and Austin Lamoureux and the Jr A & B1 rights for Joe Mullen to Port Coquitlam for the playing rights to Ayden McDonald, Marcus Chenard, and future considerations
Richmond is the headliner here, as he is one of the best players in BC. He has 17 goals and 7 assists this season for Delta and will join a Saints team looking to make a run agains their cross-river rivals.
Richmond was one of the best Canadians in the NCAA this season, scoring 46 goals and adding 27 assists this season for UAlbany, including a ferocious run through the conferene playoffs and NCAA tournament that saw hime score 4 goals three games in a row before adding 4 points against the eventual champion Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
Richmond was traded to the Victoria Shamrocks last year, scoring 24 points in 8 playoff games.
He can also do this:
The Victoria Shamrocks trade the playing rights of Kaden Granberg and Dylan Johannes to the Burnaby Lakers for future considerations
Johannes has 12 goals and 15 assists this season for the Shamrocks, and scored 139 career points for the Shamrocks in 56 career games.
Granberg has played in six contests for the Shamrocks this year, scoring 2 goals and 1 assist. He had 15 goals and 5 assists at Seton Hill university this year.
Both players will beef up a Burnaby offence that has been excellent this year. After beating Coquitlam twice, the Lakers are gearing up for a big run.
The Delta Islanders dealt Chase Miller to New Westminster in return for Simon Poole and CJ Fahlke, along with a second round selection in 2025 and fourth round selection in 2026.
None of those players have competed in the BCJALL in 2024. Poole and Fahlke were both Freshmen this year at Limestone College. Fahlke scored 5 goals in eight games played for the Saints while Poole competed in one game.
Burnaby traded Ryan Sheldrake and a 2026 first round pick to Langley for goalie Brayden Wandler.
Wandler has been a multi-year starter for the Thunder, who are clearly in rebuilding mode this season.
Sheldrake was the fourth overall pick by the Lakers in the 2024 BCJALL entry draft.
OJLL
June 22
Orangeville Northmen receive Bowie Horsman, Dante Bowen, and Connor O’Toole from Brampton for Marcelo Carreiro, three first round picks, and three second round picks. KW receives goaltender Zach Richards in the trade, while Brampton receives a first round pick.
This one is a shocker to me, as the Excelsiors sit in the top five in the OJLL standings. O’Toole is one of the best goaltenders in Canada, and was the 18th overall selection in the 2023 NLL draft. He is the son of legendary NLL goaltender Pat O’Toole (who is also on the bench for Brampton) and has played his whole life for the Excelsiors.
Bowen is arguably the best defender in the OJLL. He plays his college lacrosse at Ohio State, and has 4 goals and 4 assists this season. He often stays to play offence and will be a big weapon for the Northmen. Looking ahead to potential playoff matchups with Mimico or the Beaches, Bowen gives Orangeville a big right-handed option to deal with the likes of Matt Collison, Lucas Dudemaine, and Mark Watters.
Horsman is the second leading scorer on the Excelsiors this season with 22 goals and 29 assists. In 57 career games played, he has 184 points for Brampton. He plays his college lacrosse at Cornell university.
Richards improves a weakness for KW. He started four games for the Northmen this season, but Orangeville has started Lindyn Hill in recent games.
Carreiro had 87 points this season for the Jr. B Northmen.
Burlington Blaze trade Nicholas Volkov to Mimico Mountaineers in a three-team trade. Burlington receives Brendan Campbell, Carter Reynolds, Mimico’s second round pick in 2026, and a first round pick in 2028. They also receive Dante Mancini. Oakville Buzz receive a second round pick from Mimico
This is an interesting one as Burlington added players at the deadline but chose to “sell” on Volkov. I wrote about Volkov on Friday as a potential trade candidate, and the Mountaineers made it happen on Saturday. He played 13 NLL games this year for the Albany Firewolves and though he did not play in any post-season games, was part of the Firewolves run through the NLL playoffs in 2024.
He gives another big, experienced option for the Mountaineers.
Mancini has been the backup goalie for Oakville this season, making two appearances.
St. Catharines Athletics trade second round picks in 2025 and 2026 to the Six Nations Arrows for Thunder Hill
Anyone who has watched the Athletics this season will know that left-handed scoring has been their achilles heel. Hill has been one of the best goal scorers on the circuit this summer with 25 goals in 14 games.
Hill played last night, scoring 2 goals and 2 assists in his debut for the Athletics.
Oakville Buzz trade Riley Ford, Xander Derkatz, and Zach Coulman to the Burlington Blaze for John Logue, Liam Luzza, and Jonah Kerr
This was unsurprising to me given that I knew Oakville would trade the rest of their fifth year players after the blockbuster on Friday. Ford has been playing well recently and gives a slick lefty option, while Derkatz has highlight potential.
What is surprising was that the Blaze added these fifth year players before trading Volkov. Normally teams will pick a direction, either buying or selling. The Blaze opted for a middle-ground, where they made a nice return on Volkov but should still be competitive in the playoffs.
Luzza has played twice this year for the Blaze, while Kerr was the second round selection for the Blaze in the 2024 entry draft.
KW trade Dylan Lee, Seven Gillingham and a second round pick to the Peterborough Lakers for James Donnelly, Michael Green, and Brendan Marino.
Lee has played nine games for KW this season, while Gillingham has played in one.
Marino is the only one of the group headed to KW that has played in the OJLL this season, scoring twice in six games.
June 21
Oakville Buzz trade Brian Jackman to the Orangeville Northmen for first round selections in 2026 and 2029
The Buzz sell-off continues as Jackman heads up the the other O-Ville for a playoff push. The UMASS Amherst player has 15 goals and 22 assists so far this season. He adds another left-handed option to the Northmen alongside Liam Matthews and Trey Deere.
He is an athletic player with the skills to make some pretty impressive plays. One example is his recent goal against the Mimico Mountaineers.
For the Buzz, the trade continues their sell-off at this trade deadline. Read more below about the rest of their moves.
June 19
Oakville Buzz trade Will Sheehan and Eric McDonald to the Toronto Beaches for Carter Darwin, four first round picks (2026, 2027, 2028, and 2029) and second Round Picks in 2028 and 2029.
Wow, this one is a doozy. You may have heard that Beaches had a tough week. Now, they are signalling to everyone that they have no intentions of not storming back the rest of the way and winning the Minto Cup.
Sheehan is the leading scorer for the Buzz, scoring 53 points in his 11 games this year (28 goals, 25 assists). Not including the Beaches players (who seem primed to lose their stats), Sheehan will be much higher.
The Yale product departs as one of the best offensive players to wear the Buzz jersey. In 57 career games for Oakville, he scored 124 goals and 111 assists for a total of 235 points.
McDonald is a right-handed defender who plays his college lacrosse at Johns Hopkins. He scored a goal and 2 assists in nine games this season. He has played out the offensive door throughout his career and scored 38 points in 2022. He ends his Buzz career with 58 points in 60 games.
For Beaches, it gives them another right handed player to work with Greg Palmer. Willem Firth, Matt Collison, and Hamish Macpherson form a dominant left-side. Now the defence will have to defend both sides.
McDonald gives them another mobile defender with scoring ability. But most importantly it sends a message that this team may be down, but they are not out.
Oakville Buzz trade Jack MacAlpine to Whitby Warriors for a 2025 First Round Pick
MacAlpine went out with a bang, scoring the game winning goal last night in overtime to lift the Buzz over the Mimico Mountaineers. Through 11 games this season, he scored 8 goals and added 24 assists. At the time of the trade, he was the fourth leading scorer on the Buzz.
In 41 career games with the Buzz, he has scored 26 goals and 60 assists.
For the Warriors, this move adds another scoring weapon on their right side to compliment Lucas Littlejohn and the rest of the Whitby offence. It also signals clearly that the Warriors are all-in for this season, while Oakville has waved the white flag.
St. Catharines Athletics trade Noah Snyder to the Six Nations Arrows for Nick Thomas and a 2028 Second Round Pick
In the first major move of deadline season in Ontario, the Athletics traded the American Snyder to the Arrows. He made an immediate impact for Six Nations, scoring 2 goals and an assist in his first game on Monday night.
Snyder is a Marquette University commit and has scored 47 points in 24 career Games Played in the OJLL.
Thomas has 30 goals and 17 assists this season for the Cambridge Highlanders of the Ontario Jr. B lacrosse association. A 2004 birth year, Thomas has another year of Jr. lacrosse after this. He will look to help the Athletics in their hunt for the 2025 Minto Cup, which will be hosted in St. Catharines.
RMLL
There have been no announced trades yet this season in the RMLL.
