Kiazyk Leads Beaches Through An Impressive Week, While Peterborough Knocks Off Mimico

Nobody in Jr. A box lacrosse had a better week than Toronto Beaches goaltender Thomas Kiazyk. He back-stopped the Beaches to four victories on the week, including an emphatic 13-6 victory against the Orangeville Northmen.

But that was not all, as Kiazyk scored his first career goal in a win over Brampton.

And to make it even sweeter, the Sunday victory coincided with a Mimico loss, meaning that the Beaches are the last remaining undefeated Jr. A box lacrosse team in Canada. Check out a story on that Beaches and Orangeville game from LCD’s Jon Donville.

Other than Beaches being undefeated, the news of the weekend was Finn Thomson passing Graeme Gair for first place all-time in scoring by a Mimico player. Finn beat Gair’s record during a victory on Saturday against Oakville. The record had stood since 1966.

Other winners this weekend include the KW Jr. A Lacrosse Club who came up with a win and a tie and are very much alive in the playoff race. Likewise, the Peterborough Lakers pulled one of the biggest upsets of the entire season with their massive road victory over Mimico.

British Columbia

Nanaimo and Coquitlam dominated the weekend in the BCJALL. The Adanacs are hosting the 2024 Minto Cup, and are starting to look the part. Led by a strong defence and goaltender Jack Kask, they were winning both of their games by an even wider margin than the final score would suggest.

On that note, the Adanacs are producing a documentary series entitled “Road to the Minto Cup.” It’s worth the watch for any Canadian lacrosse fan. In addition to that, they are live-streaming all of their games this season. A link to their website, which includes the documentary, can be found here.

In the WLA, Mathieu Gautier, Jesse King, and Chris Origlieri led the Shamrocks to victory. With a loss by New Westminster over the weekend, Victoria is the last undefeated team on the circuit.
