End of the Line for the Raiders
It was do-or-die Monday for the Raiders as the final day of the round robin commenced. Their counterparts, still looking to secure their spot in the semis, were clearly ready to play.
The game would start out a little slower paced as the teams seemed to be feeling each other out. Coquitlam would break the ice midway through the period on a Nathan Chalmers marker and rode that goal into a first-intermission lead. Jack Kask continued his bounce back in net these past couple of games after a rough start to the tournament.
Adanacs Put Foot on the Gas
It was in the middle frame where the Adanac storm became overpowering. A 4-goal run that spanned the midsection of the period would put the BC champions into cruise control. The theme of incredibly balanced scoring continued as McDonald, Malawsky, Colsey, and Chalmers tallied for the Adanacs in succession.
Some poised and precise passing both back door and in front of the net would result in the run that would ultimately seal the game.
Although Dexter Hannigan would deposit one really late in the stanza to get the Raiders on the board off a nice dish from Bollinger, Coquitlam would take a 6-1 lead to the locker room after two.
Leave No Doubt
The third saw a number of transition looks for the Adanacs as the Raiders looked as though they recognized their fate. It’s not all that characteristic of Coquitlam to run in transition and push the ball up floor, but it was impressive how often they were capitalizing on those chances. Still not giving up, Russel Bollinger would add a pair for his Raiders to continue his strong Minto Cup showing but it wouldn’t be nearly enough as the Adanacs would be an 11-3 count.
The Raiders finish the round robin 0-3 and see their season come to a close. Meanwhile, the Adanacs improve to 2-1 and are likely to be in the semi-final tomorrow against the Athletics.
Three Stars
#1. Ryan Colsey (COQ)
Nifty to the inside both off and on-ball, Colsey constantly gets to prime scoring areas. He exhibited excellent finish yet again, especially impressive for an American player.
#2. Nathan Chalmers (COQ)
Chalmers is working on a terrific tournament. He is great at cutting the middle and as the picker in the two-man game. As an added bonus,
#3. Russel Bollinger (RAI)
Bollinger is aggressive attacking the net all the time on ball and willing to take on defenders. He scored a pair of goals as well as an assist and was by far the most dangerous Raider.
Unsung Hero
Aidan McDonald (COQ)
McDonald has given the Adanacs another depth piece to their offence and works well down low on the crease. He understands how to find the soft areas of the floor and open himself up and has been effective all weekend.
