The WLA conducted their 2025 WLA Draft on Tuesday, with five rounds of players entering British Columbia’s Sr. A loop.
With the first selection of the draft, the Burnaby Lakers chose Silas Richmond. Richmond played the majority of his career with Delta before joining the Port Coquitlam Saints for a Minto Cup run this past year. With 73 points last season at UAlbany, Richmond looks to be one of the highest scoring Canadians in the NCAA this year.Â
The next two picks were spent on 2024 Minto Cup Champions. Burnaby selected Jaxon Fridge with the second overall selection, adding a gritty left-handed defender to their mix. Fridge is set for another season this year at Canisius, and figures to be an early draft pick next year in the NLL.
Then Coquitlam drafted their own product in David Charney. Charney is a right-handed forward who was a solid role player in the Minto Cup run for the Adanacs, and is playing field lacrosse up I-90 from Fridge at RIT.
But the biggest news of the day may not have been a draft pick, but a trade. Victoria received the playing rights to Wes Berg for the 2025 and 2026 seasons in return for the seventh overall pick in the draft. The teams will also swap picks in 2027 in the event that Coquitlam’s pick is higher.Â

Berg has played 80 games between the MLL and PLL and has not played summer lacrosse since the PLL made the shift to playing exclusivity in the summer. When he did last play Sr. A, it was in Oakville for the Rock.Â
Coquitlam used their pick on Aiden Hindson, a defender from New Westminster who was a fifth round pick of the Calgary Roughnecks in the most recent NLL draft.
