Alex Simmons was the star rookie last National Lacrosse League season – he earned Rookie of the Year honours after his tremendous season. He scored a bunch, tallied almost more points than any other rookie in NLL history, and took a ton of shots.
A St. Catharine’s, Ontario native, Simmons was selected with the fourth overall selection in the 2022 NLL draft. In his rookie season with the Firewolves, he scored 38 goals and added 58 assists, for a total of 96 points.
He also finished second in the league in shots with 233, trailing only Rochester’s Connor Fields. That was alongside leading the Firewolves on a surprising playoff run that took them all the way to the NLL finals.
He then followed that up with some spot duty for the California Redwoods this past summer, showing that he can get it done indoors and outside. The Denver and Syracuse graduate had an outstanding career in the NCAA
Alex and I discuss his rookie year, the confidence he got from his teammates and coaches, and his thoughts on this year’s FireWolves club.
