Veteran forward Dane Dobbie signed a one-year deal with the Calgary Roughnecks, the team announced Monday.Â
Dobbie returns to Calgary after playing three seasons for the San Diego Seals. He returns to Alberta after spending his first 13 seasons playing for the Rouchnecks. He was a member of both the 2009 and 2019 championship teams for the Roughnecks, and is still the franchise’s all-time leading scorer.
In 182 games played in a Roughneck uniform, Dobbie scored 435 goals and 454 assists according to www.nllstats.com. He will also rejoin former Roughneck and Seals teammate Curtis Dickson, who was traded to Calgary earlier this off-season. Dickson trails only Dobbie in the all-time Roughnecks scoring list, with 845 points of his own during his similarly long tenure in Calgary.
Dickson has the most goals in Roughneck history.
Together, the pair have been one of the most productive tandems in NLL history. Of Dickson’s 529 goals, 152 have been assisted by Dobbie (roughly 28%). Dickson returned the favor plenty himself, with 155 career assists coming off Dobbie goals.
The only current NLL players with more combined goals and assists are Robert Church and Mark Matthews. Matthews assisted on a remarkable 180 of Church’s 351 goals.
The move marks another point in what has been a busy off-season for the Roughnecks. Gone are long-time Roughnecks Zach Currier, Shane Simpson, and Jeff Cornwall, but Dickson and Dobbie return. There is also the pending situation with goaltender Christian Del Bianco,
Just in October, the Roughnecks signed 5th round pick Luke Williams, first round pick Jack Follows, and they signed two-year deals with Carter Cook, Kieran McKay, and Aiden Hindson.
Dobbie joins a left-side which will feature Jesse King, Tanner Cook, Mathieu Gauthier, and Dan Taylor. Dickson will look to join right-handers Tyler Pace and Haiden Dickson.
Calgary starts their season December 7th when they visit the Halifax Thunderbirds.
