After a day off at the Mann Cup, the Victoria Shamrocks and Six Nations Chiefs will resume their best of seven series on Monday night. The series is currently tied at 1-1.
Victoria came out fast in the series, winning the first game 9-8. Marshal King had 6 goals of his own in an incredible effort to lead the Shamrocks. His 6th goal of the night was a nice outside shot that put the Shamrocks up 8-4 in the third period.
Lyle Thompson had 5 goals of his own to lead Six Nations, and almost brought the Chiefs all the way back. First he had this nice two-man game with Travis Longboat.
Then he had this pick and pop with Dhane Smith.
Jesse King scored on a power play opportunity in the third period, in what proved to be the game winning goal.
But the Chiefs came back with a vengeance in game two, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Warren Hill was sharp in the goal but the Chiefs defence was the story, keeping Victoria primarily to the outside.
Lyle Thompson again led the scoring with 3 goals and 1 assist, while Eli McLaughlin had a hat-trick, including two in the first 5 minutes of the game.
His second goal came off a nice rebound effort after a good opportunity.
Randy Staats found the back of the net twice in the game, including this slick jump shot to the top corner, which was part of a four goal Chiefs run that put the game to rest in the second period.
One of the primary storylines of the tournament has been the decision from Lacrosse Canada to not allow Victoria to add players. The Shamrocks announced earlier in the weekend that they have appealed this decision. The full statement on the appeal can be found in the tweet below.
As of this writing, no update has been provided on the process of the appeal. As of now, Will Malcom and Mike Messenger will still not be allowed to compete this week for the Shamrocks.
