Northmen, Raiders Punch Their Tickets to Coquitlam

The Minto Cup field is now set.

After a legendary Sunday with two game seven games, the Orangeville Northmen and Okotoks Raiders punched their tickets to the Minto Cup. Both teams will have to turn around quickly to get to Coquitlam, as the Minto will begin in less than a week’s time.

In the end, the Northmen blew out the Mimico Mountaineers by a score of 20-12. Liam Matthews and Joey Spallina combined for 11 goals between the two of them, and the Northmen won their 11th OJLL championship. Read a recap of that contest below.

Orangeville will now look for their eighth Minto Cup, and first one since 2019.

Meanwhile in the OJBLL, the Elora Mohawks swept the Kahnawake Hunters 3-0 in the Ontario finals, booking their trip to the Founders Cup. Brinley Wilson followed up a 146 point regular season with a 65 point playoff run to lead Elora.

In the MSL, the Peterborough Lakers completed the sweep over Brooklin. The Ontario finals against Six Nations will begin on Tuesday, August 13.

British Columbia

With the BCJALL wrapping up their playoffs before the other leagues, the focus shifted to the WLA.

Victoria’s perfect season game to an end following a game two loss to the New Westminster Salmonbellies. But the Shamrocks rebounded quickly and defeated the Salmonbellies by a score of 8-4 in game three. Highlights of that game are below.

In the series between Maple Ridge and Langley, the Thunder rebounded from a game one defeat to win the next two games. Chase Scanlan leads all scorers in the playoffs with 23 points in 3 games.

Alberta

The Raiders held on for the game seven victory. With the 7-6 victory, the Raiders secured their first RMLL title since 2019, ending a strong run of success from the Miners.

After winning the first two games of the series, the Raiders lost three in a row. They secured an 18-6 victory in game six before the tight checking final game.

Dylan Belliveau (44 points), and Cash Frijters (42 points) led the scoring in the playoffs leading into game seven. Stats from the final game are not yet official on the RMLL website.
