NLL Week 11: Hungry Dogs Run Faster

Desperation was the theme of week 11 of the NLL schedule. In dire need of a win, both San Diego and Halifax went on the road and secured hard fought victories. San Diego’s victory stoped the Rock’s three game winning streak, and dropped their record to 3-6.

Meanwhile Colorado got back in the win column while Calgary grinded out a 15-12 victory in front of nearly 10,000 fans in Vancouver.

Colorado Mammoth 13 – Georgia Swarm 12

The Mammoth once again found some late-game magic, with Ryan Lee scoring with just 38 seconds remaining to give Colorado the lead. Lee led all scorers with 2 goals and 6 assists, while Will Malcom and Connor Robinson finished with 2 goals and 4 assists each.

Toron Eccleston continued to be a revelation for the Swarm with 4 goals and 3 asssists. That was on the back of his 4 goal, 4 assist performance in Vegas the week before.

Miles and Lyle Thompson both had 5 points each, as did Shayne Jackson.

Stat of the Game: After winning their first two games, Colorado has not won or lost two games in a row this season. They have rotated wins and losses, and sit at 6-4 on the season.

Calgary Roughnecks 15 – Vancouver Warriors 12

After being 3-1 earlier this season, Vancouver was dropped four of their last five contests, with Saturday’s loss being their first home defeat of the season.

Curtis Dickson was strong in his hometown, finishing with 3 goals and 4 assists, while longtime running mate Dane Dobbie had 2 goals and 4 assists. Cam MacLeod made 40 saves in the victory.

Keegan Bal led all scorers in the game with 2 goals and 6 assists while Adam Charalambides had 2 goals and 4 assists.

Stat of the Game: Dickson has had tons of success against his hometown teams. He has 29 goals and 27 assists in 10 games against the Warriors, and had 67 goals and 57 assists in 20 games against the Vancouver Stealth.

San Diego Seals 11 – Toronto Rock 10

After three straight losses, the Seals got a potentially season-altering victory in Toronto. Wes Berg led the way with 4 goals for the Seals including the game winner, while Rob Hellyer led all scorers with 2 goals and 3 assists. James Reilly amde his debut for the Seals and won 9 of 24 faceoffs (37.5%) against TD Ierlan.

Defender Mitch De Snoo led the scoring for the Rock with 2 goals and 2 assists, while Corey Small had a hat-trick for Toronto.

Stat of the Game: Small’s third goal was the 400th of his career. He passed Tom Marachek on the all-time scoring list and became just the 17th player in leage history to score 400 goals.

Halifax Thunderbirds 14 – Philadelphia Wings 10

It was a big sporting weekend in Philadelphia, but the Wings couldn’t pull off the win on Saturday. The story of the game was the transition play of the Thunderbirds, who got 6 goals from non-offensive personnel.

Ryan Terefenko had 6 points, 10 loose balls, and 5 caused turnovers for Halifax, just a week after he had 5 points. His career high for points was 21 back in 2023, but he already has 19 through 8 games this season.

Mitch Jones had a goal and 8 assists to continue his stellar season, while Michael Sowers made his NLL debut, scoring 2 goals and an assist.

Stat of the Game: Graeme Hossack had a goal, 2 assists, 18 loose balls, and 6 caused turnovers in the game. The loose balls tied for the most in his career, while he had 6 CTO’s on one other occasion.
