Dispatch from Coquitlam: Adanacs Advance in Surprising Fashion
It’s certainly been a unique Minto Cup in 2024, which resulted in a three-way tie for first place in the round robin.
The Coquitlam Adanacs advanced to the championship series, albeit not in great fashion. They lost 12-9 to an Orangeville team that sat their four leading scorers and starting goaltender.
The Northmen will play the Port Coquitlam Saints tonight, with the winner getting a birth in the best of three championship series. The Raiders are eliminated from the tournament after a loss yesterday to the Saints.
This tournament really has represented the best of what Jr. A lacrosse should be about. The Poirier Sports and Leisure complex has continued to be an excellent host for the tournament, and the crowds have remained high throughout the week.
But there have been a few moments that exemplify everything good about our sport.
I wrote today about a captain from Alberta who took a massive check which caused him to bleed on the floor, but returned to lead his young team all the way to the finish.
I wrote about a fifth year from Orangeville, getting his shot at Minto glory, and seizing it.
I wrote about two brothers on Port Coquitlam, one of whom got injured, and the other who replaced his injured sibling in the tournament of their lives.
These are just a few of the incredible storylines and moments we have witnessed this week.
