Cupido Takes Next Step in Unique Lacrosse Journey
NLL careers come in many different shapes and sizes, but arguably none are as unique as Joey Cupido.
The longtime Colorado Mammoth defender signed with the Georgia Swarm this week, taking the next step in a sports career that has made a few unusual stops.
Cupido was a standout athlete in college, just not in lacrosse. He played football at McMaster University, during the golden age of the Marauder program. He won the 2011 Vanier Cup, and played in two more. In 2012, he was a first-team All-Canadian.
In one game, he tied a CIS record with four interceptions against Queen’s.
Then he joined the Mammoth as an offensive player, but asked to play defence during his first season. 169 games, two transition player of the year awards, and one championship later, Cupido is a Mammoth legend.
He sat down with the Back of the Bird boys, which you can find on Youtube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and at the link below.
