It’s a solo episode of the College Lacrosse Show today as Dan Arestia is out on vacation. But I wanted to rip through the most important games of the week, including the most famous rivalry in the sport, and get the people some lacrosse talk for their weekends!
Cornell took care of business on Long Island, handily defeating a Syracuse team that had been in fine form recently. CJ Kirst continued his ridiculous season and the Cornell offence continued to be the best in the country. But it was the Cornell defence who was arguably more impressive, especially in their efforts to hold Joey Spallina to just one goal and 4 shots.
In Durham, UNC won a gross rivalry game 8-7, in a contest where neither offence played well. Owen Duffy and Dom Pietremala battled through injuries and a heckling Duke crowd and did just enough to win. UNC will need more performances like that from their defence, but I think it was more indicative of a Duke offensive unit that seems broken.
Then lastly, the Maryland Terrapins responded from a loss and pounded the Ohio State Buckeyes at home. Maryland used some exaggerated offensive spacing to draw the Buckeye defence out and shot very efficiently on Caleb Fyock. Ohio State looked a little rushed at times, which makes sense given how well things have gone for them in recent months.
The Maryland Terrapins got a much needed victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes on Saturday, thanks in large part to an offensive strategy known as crease pops!@jdonville13 explains!
