If you are a recurring reader of LCD this year, you should be familiar with the name Todd Tobias. He is the leading authority in the lacrosse trading card world, with both a knowledge and a collection that will shock any casual fan.
Check out Todd’s work on LCD here.
But now Todd is crossing the aisle and joining the production process, where he teamed up with TFL sports to create a specific set of WLBC trading cards based on the World Lacrosse Box Championships which were played in Utica this past year.
TFL reached licensing agreements with USA Lacrosse, Lacrosse Canada, and the Haudenosaunee Nationals, to create three unique sets within the box. Fans can purchase any of the three team sets, which will also include men’s and women’s players.
I sat down with Todd on Tuesday to discuss the project, and we also took some time to discuss the hobby and some of the newer pieces in Todd’s ever growing collection.
Fans can purchase the WLBC trading cards through Inside Lacrosse here.
At the end of the interview, we discussed some of the most recent additions to Todd’s collection, which include some newer pieces and some very, very old ones.
Danny Logan 2022 Autograph PLL Card 1/1

The first card in his recent haul was a 1/1 Danny Logan autograph card. As a San Diego native, Todd has collected the Seals players extensively, and the Logan 1/1 is a nice add.
2017 New York Lizards Team Set

One of the great MLL teams ever, the Lizards had no shortage of star power including names like Pannell, Rabil, Walters, and more. Todd recently added this lesser known card set to the collection.
1908 Canadian Olympic Team

One of my favourite things about talking with Todd is the crazy things we always seems to find, including this image of the 1908 Canadian Olympic Lacrosse Team. Many fans might not realize but there was a time when lacrosse was in the Olympics, so 2028 represents the sport’s re-entry to the games, not the debut.
1885-86 Montreal Athletic Club

Dubbed the “World Champions,” for reasons not exactly clear, this image is less than 20 years older than Canada itself. A great add by Todd.
There is lots happening in the hobby world, so make sure to keep LCD in your rotation to never miss the latest news.
As always, make sure to check out Todd’s website, Lax Card Archive for more!
